This great little book of simple, colorful and clean illustrations by art director Vahram Muratyan was fantastic. Sure it was just a little book full of French and American sayings and clichés, but the concept behind it was fabulous.

Visually, he compares living in Paris and New York at two different times in his life; and makes a point to draw the similarities that are still so unique to their geography. In Paris, a Sunday morning might consist of a delicious croissant at the local cafe, but in New York.. Sunday Morning by The Velvet Underground is the best hangover song after Saturday night fun.

There’s a BUNCH of these fun visual idioms in the book so walk on over to your nearest book store and take a look. PS: you might need to understand French or have access to Google Translate to understand the comparisons.

This book was only a measly 160 pages with what I thought to be a great subject/message (the struggle and loneliness that can come from being intelligent) but it took me almost a year to finish it. It is supposed to be a fable, which makes it a little easier to reconcile with, but I found that it was just a short book that was the easiest to read but the hardest to finish. I’ve read 200 page books in 6 hours with heavier plot lines. I guess it just left me empty handed because I had high expectations for relating to the story. I had no personal connection to the characters and the characters were a bit outlandish. I just think Martin Page is a stuck up Parisian and I’m happy to retire this book.

Just a few of my current reads.

These are the 4 Chuck Palahniuk books I’ve been able to complete, and I’d have to say the top three are my favorite with them ranking:

  1. Invisible Monsters
  2. Fight Club
  3. Choke

and I paid for the Survivor audio book. I did like this one, but it was SO creepy and deranged. I mean thats his style, but it was a little too much. Especially in audio. I will still recommend them all.

Useful Work versus Useless Toil by William Morris
I just got this on Barnes and Noble’s website for $0.99 and I love it so far. It aligns quite well with current predicaments in my life.

This is my current read on the iPad, and I think its great. It obviously includes more than the movie which is nice, and it also looks as though they merged some characters in the film as well. *recommend the read

“Out of my Mind… Back in 5 Minutes.”

Found this cool art direction agency called “An Art Service” located in NY while perusing the internetz. They have a really cool portfolio.

I have listened to this probably 500 times and every time gets better. A passage from Bret Easton Ellis’ book Imperial Bedrooms.

I love Bret Easton Ellis

because when people ask him questions about why he wrote what he did.. he doesn’t give some answer he pulls from under the carpet.. he simply says, “I don’t know, it felt right.. I just can’t answer that.”

and I can totally feel him on that. and I appreciate that.

bbook:

Thanks to the continuing evolution of e-readers and the iPad, various publishing companies have found ways to mix multi-media elements into their books, even novels. Whatever will they think of next???

THIS is why I fell in LOVE with iPad! Interactive books and ads?! Um, yes.
